v. How to access that power available from God.

You have learned how God pursues a relationship with us.  You have learned as well that great power is available to us through God’s Holy Spirit.  You are probably wondering what should you do to have access to God’s Holy Spirit.

Here are seven simple steps you need to take in order to start experiencing God in your life.

1.  Accept in faith Jesus in your life (not a Jesus that has been twisted by theology and misconceptions). Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast."  Put away the notion that you need to earn your heaven.  Jesus paid the price for you!  His offer on the cross is all that you need to be saved! Heb 7:27-28 “He (Jesus) sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.” NIV   Jesus paid the price of your salvation.  All you need to do is accept in faith His offer and you will be saved!

This simple gospel message of Christ crucified and resurrected is a 1 Cor 1:23: “We preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.” NIV  In other words it’s an offense to religious people and it’s an offense to the philosophies of this world!  It’s just too simple for them.  However, it’s the truth from God!

(P.S. Once God’s Spirit lives in you, your life will reflect His glory in you! James 1:21 “Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.” NIV)

2.  Scrutinize everything with God’s Word, which should always be the foundation of all your beliefs. Acts 17:11 “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” NIV

3.  Pray to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit. God will not ignore your request.  On His timing His Holy Spirit will be revealed to you (it took 40 days after Jesus’ ascension before the disciples received God’s Holy Spirit!)

Jesus promised in Matt 7:7-12 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” NIV

Expect to receive what you ask from God, and he will grant you His holy Spirit!

4.  Start having a relationship with your heavenly Father through prayer, studying His Word and experiencing Him in your life.  Make sure not to be the only one to talk.  Listen for His voice and He will respond to you.  At first His voice may sound like a whisper.  Bit by bit you will hear His voice more and more and it will be your guide in your life!  You will never be alone any longer!  God will be with you and in you!

John 14:16-17 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth.” NIV

5.  Accept the Holy Spirit in your life.  Welcome Him in your heart.  John 14:16-17 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” NIV

1 Cor 2:14 “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” NIV

6.  Expect the manifestation of the fruit of God’s Spirit in your life and His gifts.  Don’t reject those.  They come from God Himself. Gal 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” NIV (P.S. Through God’s Spirit you will be able to forgive others because Jesus first forgave you! Eph 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. NIV

1 Cor 12:7-11 “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.” NIV

7.  Start fellowshipping with believers who have a personal relationship with God and who believe in the power of God’s Holy Spirit without neglecting the Bible being their guide. Heb 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” NIV

Enjoy experiencing God in your life!  You won’t regret having a relationship with your Heavenly Father!
