iii. Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the best example of how important it is to have a relationship with God. He left the heavenly glory to come to our planet.  Why? John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” NIV Note that this text does not say “that whoever keeps church doctrines shall not perish . . .”, nor does it say “whoever does good . . .”  No.  It says “Whoever believes in Him . . .”.  How can we believe in Jesus?  To believe in Him, we need to have a relationship with Him!  Relationship is stressed here again and the One looking for that relationship is not us humans, but God Himself!

While on earth, did Jesus live like a hermit?  No!  He was constantly with people, healing them, listening to them and sharing the good news with them.  He loved being with people.  Why?  Because He wanted to have a relationship with them!

Read carefully the following texts:

John 5:17 “Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” NIV

John 5:19-20 “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.” NIV

Principle 1: God the Father is always at work around us.

Principle 2: Jesus can do nothing by himself (if He cannot do anything by Himself, even less us sinners!)

Principle 3: Jesus can only do what he sees His Father doing.  In other words, Jesus was depending on God and joined Him in His work! No relationship, no miracles.  No relationship, no direction.

If Jesus was unable to do anything without having a close relationship with His Father, even less us humans who have tendencies (urgings) to sin!
