e. The mountain of decision

You are in front of a mountain of decision my friend.  Just like the Israelites 4000 years ago, you have a choice to make.  They were freed from a cruel bondmaster and were made a people out of no people. (1 Peter 2:10

“Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”)  God wanted them to rely on Him.  However they were slow to learn.  When they were hungry, they berated Moses.  When thirsty they complained and hungered to go back to Egypt. But God was patient and continuously tried to reach out to them.

At the place of the covenant, the place of intimacy with their Creator, God intended for ALL the Israelites to get close to Him on the mountain, but the Jews were uncomfortable:  Ex 20:18-21 “When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance  and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die."  Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.” NIV  How sad.  Instead of pursuing their deliverer as Moses did, they ran from His presence.  They preferred distant respect to an intimate relationship with their Maker.  It’s there that they ran from God and demanded that Moses be the Mediator between them and God.  It’s there that the root of their problems started, and that distrust of God was manifested.

This root of fear reaches all the way back to Eden.  While God was looking for a sweet fellowship with them, Adam and Eve hide in shameful fear because of having disobeyed God (see Gen 3:8-10)

God is tired of long distance relationship with His people.  He really wants to have intimate, close encounters with you and me.  He wants to invade your home with His sweet abiding presence.  However the choice is yours.  You can continue to watch Him respectfully from a distance and just keep on learning about Him, remembering His big exploits of the past.  You can continue to let others be the intermediary between your Saviour and yourself, and you can continue to depend on them to tell you what to do.  Or you can come to the mountain of the covenant and accept God’s invitation to have a close intimate relationship with Him.  You can let Him be your guide so that you don’t have to depend on human agents for direction.

Aren’t you tired of feeling empty inside?  Aren’t you tired of not knowing for sure if you are saved or not?  Aren’t you tired of depending on human agents to know more about God?  If you are, come to the foot of the mountain of decision, and accept God’s invitation to be your personal friend.  Invite Him into your life.  Welcome the sweet presence of His Holy Spirit and open your eyes.  Welcome a home where you never will feel lonely again! Jesus made you the following promise: Matt 28:20 “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Are you hungering for a real relationship with God?
